Heath Lake Water Quality Test by Keynes Controls
The ARGES Water Quality kit was deployed at Heath lake at various times between June 2024 onwards in order to monitor the pollution in this lake of Special Scientific Interest.
The kit was laboratory calibrated just prior to the deployment. Of particular interest for this investigation was the level of background sewage in the water and hydrocarbon run-off from nearby roads.
Measurement System
A wide range of sensors are used at various times at Heath Lake in order to record the water quality. The ARGES Multiparameter Sonde deployed at the Heath Lake are typically configured to monitor for Hydrocarbons, Sewage, Potassium, Nitrates, Ammonia and Turbidity. The fluorometer optics are cleaned automatically by the brush unit before a measurement is made.
Test sites by the public viewing platform and adjacent to bridge have been and was cerefully chosen to ensure that the wateris of a suitable depth for the measurements to be made. Fluorometers use light to determine chemical concentrations and important that the background light level used at the time of measurement is of a satisfactory level not to interfere with the results.
The real-time SONDE was used at Heath Lake and the results displayed to a Windows Laptop Screen. All of the other ARGES Water Quality sensors respond immediately upon insertion into the river. The images below show a sample of the results recorded at the lake.
The ARGES Water Quality kit is modular and can be reconfigured in the field should that be necessary. The fluorometer optics were cleaned using the submersible brush unit prior to any measurement being taken.
