Calibration Summary
The Intelligent Submersible Dissolved Lead Sensor By Keynes Controls can be used within SONDE multi-parameter housing, or as a stand-alone sensor. The Dissolved Lead sensor should calibrated before use for optimum results.
Keynes Controls offer a calibration kit for The Intelligent Submersible Dissolved Lead Sensor and this is available from the online store.
The ARGES Dissolved Lead sensor is typically calibrated at 2 points. A Zero point which uses the distilled water, and the 100 ppm end point calibration. The overall accuracy of the sensor will depend upon how well the ARGES Dissolved Lead sensor has calibrated.
Multi-parameter System
The Dissolved Lead Sensor can be fitted inside a multi-parameter SONDE and used in collaboration with additional ARGES instruments.
The image opposite shows a group of ARGES sensors in a SONDE, The SONDE is being tested using the Keynes QLOG software which is freely issued with this product.
Storage and Handling
When not in use the ARGES Intelligent Submersible Dissolved Lead Sensor By Keynes Controls head should be kept hydrated with the protective cap attached.
Storage temperature range : 2 - 60 Degrees Celsius.
Further Information
The Submersible Dissolved Lead Sensor by Keynes Controls monitors dissolved lead levels in water. The ARGES Dissolved Lead Sensor readings are influenced by temperature . For comprehensive insights into dissolved lead levels in a water source, it is recommended to deploy this sensor alongside other water quality sensors.
Fresh Water Dissolved Lead Levels
- Lead in Drinking Water - House of Commons Library - 21st May 1997 - Level of lead in drinking water should not exceed 50 µg/l
- Common UK Standard is 10 µg/l target for many organisations involved in water treatment.
- River water Dissolved Lead typically 3 -30 ppb
Salt Water Dissolved Lead Levels
Seawater contains trace amounts of lead (2-30 ppt). On average rivers contain between 3 and 30 ppb. Phytoplankton contains approximately 5-10 ppm lead (dry mass), freshwater fish approximately 0.5-1000 ppb, and oyster approximately 500 ppb.
Temperature - Dissolved Lead
Each 1 degree Celsius rise in water temperature boosts dissolved lead levels by about 17 percent and lead particles by about 36 percent,
Application Uses
- Water Quality Monitoring

Built-in Communication Options
The ARGES Dissolved Lead sensor supports SDI12, RS485 and MODBUS digital communications as standard enabling it to be directly connected to Data Logger for remote web based reporting, onto Wi-Fi and Local Area Networks using the RS485 option. The MODBUS and RS485 option are often used to connect sensors to a PLC Controller and Display Units,. The MODBUS protocol enables the sensors to be used directly by most SCADA applications software.

MODBUS Operations
ALL of the ARGES range of chemical sensors support MODBUS network operations The sensors act as a slave unit only and can communicate to suitable controllers and SCADA systems that support the MODBUS Protocol. The sensors support 16 and 32 bit registers. .
The ARGES sensors can be connected to a PC based system using the optional USB-485-Pro media converter. This device can power the chemical sensor and supports the correct timing protocols for data transmission for MODBUS and standard RS485 network communications.
Optional Extras
Any combination of the ARGES sensors can be installed into 3-Sensor and 6-sensor SONDE multi-parameter housings.
The dissolved oxygen sensor should be grouped with any of the other single ion sensors in the SONDE. The ARGES Dissolved Lead sensor is slightly longer than the fluorometers and as such is not cleaned by the brush unit should this device be installed. The submersible brush unit can be set to clean only the fluorometers and is programmable..
